Generally speaking, December includes the fashioning of gingerbread, or rather gram cracker cottages/shacks/creations at our house. Usually, we buy lots of different kinds of candy, whip up some frosting, and go to it. This year, we decided to try the pre-fashioned variety. In reading the instructions, we were surprised to see it might take 20 minutes to set up the walls. Hah, that should only take like 30 seconds, right? Especially when the pieces are already cut into perfect little pieces. Anyway, we put it up, and let it sit for maybe twenty minutes, the first time, before placing cans around the outside and perching the roof on top. As the evening went on, the house went south, and we decided to follow the instructions. Turns out, the process takes a few DAYS, not used to that. This is the final day, I think it was a Sunday morning, when we had hours of time before needing to be ready for church, hence the wonderful finery we're all sproting. Anyway, long story short, it was fun, but required less creativity and mind power. Don't get me wrong, that can be a good thing, sometimes. I think next year, we'll probably return to Graham cracker based inventions, we'll see . . .
The real reason we make these "houses"--to get all messy and covered in candy! Although, after recent Dental visits, maybe we'll go for carrots and celery on next years concoctions? Stay tuned!
